  1. How I shot it 1

I wanted to share how i shot the above image to you guys, so here it goes.  I’ve been using the beauty dish for just about every shoot since I got it. I really like the quality of light it produces on the facial features. Its a white dish so it’s still pretty soft compared to what a silver dish will put out. Also not very contrasty. I like to get a pretty flat RAW image and do the rest of the work in post…much like my “raw” video files (more on that in another post).

I used three lights. 75% of my work is done with 1-2 lights. It’s pretty easy to make those light look like many more though. If you are starting out i recommend starting with just ONE light. Learn how to control it and make it look like 2-3 lights using homemade reflctors and other modifiers. (more on that also in another post).

Key light is the Beauty dish on the models face. Boom high and slightly camera right. Second light is in a medium sized soft box camera left lightly behind model. I wanted some separation on the background. The third and final light is a 7 inch reflector with a 30 degree grid on the background. I wanted a little glow and to make the spray paint and wrinkles pop a little more.
